Sydney Refugee Team

Today multitudes of people around the globe find themselves uprooted, lonely and frightened. Haunted by unspeakable acts of horror and humiliation, many are forced from their homes, beginning long journeys of separation and uncertainty.

Millions live in massive camps, while others simply get lost amongst the numbers and statistics of displaced people. They are thrown into a lifestyle of welfare and dependency where hope and purpose are seldom found.

Here in our nation, displaced people arrive every year and with each arrival comes the opportunity for us to demonstrate the love of Jesus Christ. We have a chance to help halt this cycle of hopelessness.

God values and has great purpose for each life. The hope of the SRT is to see Christians right across the nation helping many to step into a relationship with Jesus Christ, giving them hope for the future.

The SRT works to welcome, equip and intergrate forcefully displaced people arriving in Australia, by empowering them towards a bright and sustainable future. Our heart is to demonstrate unconditional love, compassionate justice and total acceptance to each individual. We do this by:

  • Equipping - providing practical assistance in the form of essential household items such as food, clothing and furniture; connecting refugees with employment opportunities; housing assistance; transport assistance
  • Empowering - forming friendships through one to one home visits, outings and social gatherings, assisting with language acquisition and life coaching
  • Working with the local church to educate, train and empower the church to reach refugees and assylum seekers with the gospel
