I joined International Teams Australia in 2005. For six years, I served with the Innsbruck Refugee Team in Austria. At the end of my term, I returned to Australia and joined the Sydney Refugee Team in 2012. I would like to invite you to partner with me as I continue this ministry.
For those displaced from their homes elsewhere who seek asylum and refuge in Sydney, adapting to a new way of life in a new community is extraordinarily difficult. Being unfamiliar with the language, culture and social structure of Sydney’s suburbs makes it all too easy for refugees and asylum seekers living in Sydney to become isolated on the margins of society, unsure of how to find their place to belong.
The Sydney Refugee Team seeks to bring the hope of Jesus to refugees and asylum seekers, and to see their lives transformed by the power of God. We aim to build genuine relationships with them, equip and empower them to live in a new culture and to actively engage and equip the local church to reach out to refugees and asylum seekers in their communities.
Assisted by a large team of volunteers, my activities with Sydney Refugee Team provide practical, emotional and spiritual support for people as they arrive in Australia, await the outcome of visa applications and settle into a new life. Sydney Refuge Team also hold weekends away and other special events for refugees and asylum seekers. These are wonderful opportunities to build community and teach our refugee friends about the hope they, too, can have in Jesus.
I am married to Shane, who is a great support to me in my email@example.com
