Sydney Refugee Team
Bringing the hope of Jesus to asylum seekers and refugees in Sydney through emotional, practical and spiritual support.
For those seeking asylum and refuge, vast chasms often exist between the language, culture, traditions and landscapes of the life they once knew and the life they now try to adjust to. These differences make entering and engaging in a new city, employment and community extremely difficult. Men, women and children experience isolation, anxiety and depression as they struggle on the fringe of a city’s busy society, not knowing how to bridge the gap toward belonging. This is what makes the work of our Sydney Refugee Team so important.
Of the 70.8 million currently forcibly displaced from their homes by persecution, conflict, violence, or human rights violations, the individuals and families who arrive in Australia hope our country will be a place where they can feel welcome, secure and protected.
More than 20 years ago, people with a heart to help refugees in Sydney formed the Sydney Refugee Team. The Sydney Refugee Team connects with these marginalised people. We build relationships and help with a great variety of emotional, practical and spiritual needs.
Our ministry’s focus is to help those seeking asylum and refuge in Sydney thrive. We encourage development of new friendships, seek welcome and embrace by local and church communities, seek to foster growth as contributing members of the community and promote restoration and renewal through the peace and hope a relationship of faith in Jesus brings.
Sydney Refugee Team provides training for individuals and churches who seek to be part of this work and help us bridge the gap toward belonging. There are many opportunities for you to be involved.
